“Pickles-The Movie†is a present day romantic comedy about a liberated Iranian girl named Nazanine, living in America. Nazanine, the story’s ingenue, is a college girl who still lives at home with her old fashioned parents who want her to settle down and get married instead of leading a party lifestyle. Nazanine’s mother is a women stuck in the past, who constantly reminisces about her elaborate former lifestyle in Iran before the revolution and her many suitors. Nazanine’s father frequently goes to Iran for business, but ends up partying and having numerous affairs. Nazanine’s brother, Robert, is a ten-year-old rapper wanna-be, who is always getting into mischief.
While at a party, Nazanine meets Ali Maher. Ali Maher is an old fashioned Persian gangster who falls in love with Nazanine and asks her to marry him. But, when he finds out that she is not an old fashioned girl, he tries to change her ways, but their relationship ends abruptly because Nazanine simply refuses to conform to his old-fashion mentality of what a woman should and should not do (i.e. cooking, cleaning, and ironing!). Amongst their rollercoaster relationship, the story is humored with the introduction of Mehdi Zebel, who is Ali Maher’s right-hand man. Mehdi Zebel is a girl crazy happy-go-lucky guy with a heart who goes along with Ali Maher, even on his dates!
After Nazanine breaks up with Ali Maher, she meets Bob. Bob is an Americanized geeky prepster who speaks very little Farsi. With the help of Bob’s best friend Kambiz, a wanna-be womanizer who is always giving Bob bad dating advice, Bob sets out to win Nazanine’s heart.
Ali Maher shortly after realizes that he is so in love with Nazanine, that he can’t bare staying away from her, so he comes up with a solution to win her back. But it could be too late!
“Pickles-The Movie†explores the roots of Persian comedy with honesty. Ali Maher and Nazanine occasionally break into theatrical songs to express their love for each other. This is a film the whole family can enjoy.
