My Architect
My Architect
Louis I. Kahn, who died bankrupt and alone in 1974 in New York's Penn Station, is often considered the most important architect of the second half of the 20th century. An immigrant Estonian Jew, Kahn rose from poverty to build such icons as the Salk Institute, the Kimbell Art Museum and the capitol building in Bangladesh. He also left behind a complex tale of secrets and broken promises-including an illegitimate son, the film's writer/director Nathaniel Kahn. Includes insight from celebrated architects Frank Gehry, I.M. Pei and Philip Johnson.
"The architect of his own revealing work of art, Nathaniel Kahn has built something affecting he can call his own." - Lisa Schwarzbaum, ENTERTAINMENT WEEKLY
"Impeccably structured documentary is a fine introduction to Kahn's work and a consistently entertaining real-life mystery" - Mark Jenkins, WASHINGTON POST
"Obviously a profoundly personal film, but it's also a smartly conducted tour through the world of building and design that Kahn towered over during the most successful phases of his career." - David Sterritt, THE CHRISTIAN SCIENCE MONITOR
