Lovely Jackson

At the time of this release in November 2014 Rickey Jackson was the longest wrongfully incarcerated person in U.S. history, spending 39 years on death row and in prison for a murder he didn’t commit. In this boldly cinematic, award-winning documentary, Mr. Jackson returns to the actual prison where he was sent in 1976 to participate in reenactments alongside actors and his real-life false accuser while narrating in his own words as he guides the younger version of himself (Mario Beverly) from death row to freedom. Utilizing innovative storytelling technique throughout and pushing the boundary of documentary form, Jackson creates beauty from tragedy in his triumphant and harrowing firsthand accounting of what life in the U.S. Justice System was like for the wrongfully incarcerated at the end of the 20th and early 21st centuries.
