On the headstones of Robert Adams and Eveline McCord Adams are written these epitaphs: Robert's reads "After life's fitful fever, he sleeps well." Eveline's reads "To know her was to love her." Based on a true story, THE LAST CONFEDERATE is a tumultuous journey through the psyche of a Southern captain in the waning days of the American Civil War.
In an emotionally-charged performance, Julian Adams plays his great-great grandfather Robert Adams, a strong willed captain in the Confederate Army, who used his guns and charisma to rally his soldiers. Filled with passion and tragedy, THE LAST CONFEDERATE is the turbulent true story of the conflict between one man's dedication to his homeland and his love for Eveline McCord, his beloved from the north.
Filmed on location where the events actually took place, the current generations of Adamses followed the path of Robert and Eveline to bring their story to life. Julian Adams and his father Weston Adams were both raised on these same lands and have spent their lives in South Carolina. Julian partnered with his father and took the helm as the producer, writer and lead actor in the telling of their family's wartime story and the commitment to bring that story to the screen.
To ensure the authenticity of their family's true story, Julian and Weston turned to the wealth of diaries, letters and family documents on the lives of Robert and Eveline. Records of Robert's enlistment in the Confederate Army, his military service records, and ultimately his prison documents from Elmira, New York, also brought the stunning details of his story to light.
Robert was a South Carolina cotton planter and soon-to-be cavalry captain who fell in love with Eveline, an intelligent, kind and strong-willed school teacher from Pennsylvania. Eveline had come south to start a new life and just as they met, the Civil War began. All Robert cared for was tied to the growing, brutal conflict and the one thing to which he held was his love for Eveline. He was aware that his struggle to protect his land and the life he had built would be great. Robert knew the severity of the sacrifices he would make to this conflict but his commitment ran deep. His quest for survival grew as the war worsened. As the tables turned, he was ultimately captured and sent to prison, lost his best friend, his town was burned and his army defeated. Robert’s connection to Eveline weakened in the aftermath of so much loss. Her love for him would be the one thing that could carry him through.
