Island in Between
Island in Between
The rural Taiwanese outer islands of Kinmen sit merely 2 miles off the coast of China. Kinmen is popular with tourists for its military remnants of the 1949 Chinese Civil War. It is also the front line of the escalating tension between Taiwan, China, and the US.
Filmmaker S. Leo Chiang weaves lyrical vignettes of tour group visits and local life with his own narrative as someone negotiating ambivalent bonds to Taiwan, China, and the US, ISLAND IN BETWEEN explores the uncomfortable peace in these islands, and contemplates Taiwan's uncertain future.
