Eight Miles High
Eight Miles High
Germany: 1968. European wild-child Uschi Obermaier (Natalia Avelon) drives men wild. She learns all about free love in the legendary Kommune 1 in Berlin where she begins her relationship with the commune’s leader, Rainer Langhans (Matthias Schweighofer). Uschi realizes that the commune’s leftist ideals were exactly that and after a quarrel with her lover/commune leader, Uschi makes the decision to leave.
Unsure where life would take her, Uschi rises to become a supermodel and fashion icon in Germany. She appears on the covers of Playboy and Stern, and the superstars of her time (including Mick Jagger [Victor Noren] and Keith Richards [Alexander Scheer]) fall for her. The famous Italian producer Carlo Ponti wants to make Uschi a movie star, but she refuses and wants her freedom. Even throughout her intense relationship with Keith Richards, Uschi senses the dark side of fame – isolation and anonymous hotel rooms – which is not in her life’s plan.
Uschi continues on her path and meets the adventurer Dieter Bockhorn (David Scheller) and he lights up an entirely new world to her. As a bar owner, Bockhorn is a king in Hamburg’s red light district. He falls madly in love with Uschi and gives up his life in Hamburg to travel around the world with her in a luxury tour bus. Uschi and Bockhorn vagabond throughout Asia and America for several years until they stop in India where Uschi reluctantly agrees to marry Dieter in an exotic wedding ceremony.
Uschi and Bockhorn found paradise and no one chased them away, but they leave at their own free will when they find it too much to bear. How high is the cost of freedom, and are they willing to pay that price?
