Dishonour
Dishonour
Dishonour is a 39 minute drama that explores the controversial practice of female genital mutilation or 'FGM'. The story centers on a five year-old girl named Babe. Babe is caught in the middle of a struggle between her widowed father and her elderly great aunt who are both doing their best to raise her according to their traditions but also the laws and customs of their newly adopted home in the United Kingdom. The great aunt's misguided dedication to historic tribal practices, and in particular FGM, leads to a very precarious situation for Babe.
The story of Dishonour is brilliantly told by the gifted British actress, Mimi Ndiweni, who portrays six characters of varying ages.
Dishonour is an important addition to the worldwide conversation about FGM and captures the powerlessness felt by many young girls today who are faced with this life-altering procedure.
