The Art of Nothing
Jean-Yves Machond (Benoît Poelvoorde), a once-promising conceptual painter whose career was derailed by a series of setbacks, leaves Brussels and his teaching job in search of a fresh start. He settles in Étretat, the heart of French Impressionism, determined to create his magnum opus—one that will finally bring him the recognition and eternal glory he craves. The only problem? He has no idea what to paint.
In this picturesque coastal town, he finds himself caught between two contrasting influences: Bagnoule, a figurative painter and bon vivant whose warmth and carefree nature pull Jean-Yves out of his creative slump, and the cunning Cécile de Mauprès (Camille Cottin), a charming yet manipulative gallery owner who threatens to derail his focus. As he navigates these relationships and the quirks of small-town life, Jean-Yves soon realizes that inspiration—and reality—are far more unpredictable than he ever imagined.
