Heart of Nuba
A moving and remarkable story and it represents a great cause.
The Heart of Nuba
Welcome to the war-torn Nuba Mountains of Sudan, where American doctor Tom Catena selflessly and courageously serves the needs of a forgotten people as the region is bombed relentlessly by indicted war criminal Omar Al-Bashir.
Dr. Tom Catena’s patients come to him from hundreds of miles away on foot, in carts, and often cradled in their mothers' arms. This lone American surgeon tends with equal compassion to his patients' needs, ranging from malnutrition and leprosy to grave wounds inflicted by the indiscriminate bombings ordered by their own president.
'Dr. Tom' is the only surgeon within 200 miles, and he does his best to save lives in the midst of carnage and terror, treating as many as 400 patients a day at Mother of Mercy Hospital. Surrounded by a country at war and living under the constant shadow of aerial bombardment, Dr. Tom and the local staff defy Bashir’s ban on humanitarian aid, and work tirelessly to serve the Nuba people.

'The Heart of Nuba' opens like a Sudan travelogue — a chicken struts, a woman sifts grain, a plane flies overhead. That turns as small children panic and pack into an improvised foxhole, in fear of the anti-rebel Antonov about to drop its bombs over the Nuba Mountains. The heart of the documentary ...
