<b>WE INTERRUPT THIS EMPIRE...</b> April 15 & 16 - 2004
We Interrupt This Empire ... is a collaborative work by many of the Bay Area's independent video activists which documents the direct actions that shut down the financial district of San Francisco in the weeks following the U.S. invasion of Iraq. With the audio backdrop including the live broadcasts of S.F. Indymedia's Enemy Combatant Radio and the San Francisco Police Department's tactical communications that were picked up by police scanners, the documentary takes a look at the diverse show of resistance from the streets of San Francisco as well as providing a critique of the corporate media coverage of the war and exploring such issues as the military industrial complex, attacks on civil liberties, and the United States' current imperialist drive. <a href="www.videoactivism.org/empire.html"www.videoactivism.org/empire.html"></a> 52 mins / Whispered Media / dir. <b>Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness</b>
Playfully updating the 1950's school documentary, Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness offers up political and social satire regarding the current state of reproductive rights in one quick spoonful. Found-footage, animation and original images are interwoven into a collage containing the fictional stories of a conservative politician, a young couple, and a fundamentalist activist along with the decline in amphibian populations and the insidious creeping erosion of reproductive rights in the United States. All linked together through a Chinese dry cleaner. It's brilliant. www.lifeliberty.net 14 mins / The Video Project / dir. Tiffany Shlain
