BANGKOK LOVE STORY
Action Asia meets gay romance in this torrid Thai thriller.
Bangkok Love Story is a heady mixture of hunky leads, humid nights, unexpected love and gun-blazing action. Assassin-for-hire Maek is sent to knock off Iht, a police informant, when, in a twist of fate, the killer is shot for refusing to pull the trigger. They make their escape together, and forge a bond as the married Iht nurses the injured assassin back to health. Taboo feelings of desire swell between the swarthy new lovers and their relationship is discovered by both Thailand’s biggest crime boss and Iht’s angry wife. Now there’s no turning as back as enemies, friends and lovers are pitted against each other. Known as the Thai Brokeback Mountain, you’ll find equal amounts of thrilling action sequences and old-fashioned romantic chemistry between the captivatingly handsome leads. (Thai with English subtitles)
DOG TAGS
From the director of Beverly Kills, this thoughtful, sexy heart-warmer turns a lens on a pensive Marine exploring his same-sex desires with a buoyant and carefree young gay man.
Abandoned by his father and raised by his single mother, Nate Merritt joins the Marines to support his soon-to-be fiancée. While on leave in Palm Springs he meets Andy, a magnetic, seemingly free-spirited young gay man with dreams of escaping to the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. The bond between the two men is initially platonic, but their relationship unavoidably shifts into something physical and intimate as they tread the risky waters of vulnerability and introspection. Unexpectedly, by delving deeply within himself, Nate also uncovers the identity of the father he never knew. With this brave cinematic work, director Damion Dietz has cultivated one of the warmest and most stirring gay dramas in years.
WRANGLER: ANATOMY OF AN ICON
Before Jeff Stryker and Michael Lucas, Jack Wrangler was the number one name in gay porn and his wild, unpredictable career and life is recounted in this can’t-miss documentary.
With piercing blue eyes, unruly blond hair, chiseled body and top-man swagger, Jack Wranger was the iconic representation of ‘70s gay porn. Born into a showbiz family and toiling in regional theatre for several years, John Robert Stillman eventually found his calling and gay stardom as the machismo sex machine Jack Wrangler. Openly gay, Wrangler tapped into the ‘70s gay zeitgeist, personifying many a homo’s sex fantasy by starring in over 80-plus porn films including Kansas City Trucking Co., Heavy Equipment and Wanted. He even conquered straight porn, famously playing the fire-shooting Beelzebub in The Devil in Miss Jones II. Off-screen, Wrangler’s life was equally sensational -- at 33 he fell in love with and married Margaret Whiting, a 55-year-old ‘40s pop star. Wrangler is an absolute must-see for fans (and even those too young to remember when gay porn played in cinemas), with priceless archival footage -- both sexy and hysterically campy, colorful celebrity interviews and witty commentary from Jack Wrangler himself.
I DREAMT UNDER THE WATER
In this savagely engaging drama, filled with heart, lust and emotion, a man’s personal journey through the dark Parisian night opens his mind to a myriad of sexually graphic roundelays.
Sure to create controversy with its sexual explicitness and complex take on the fluidity of sexual orientation, I Dreamt under the Water is both lyrical and explosive. Handsome Antonin has been harboring an unrequited love for his equally attractive male fellow band-mate. But when his “love” dies one night in his arms, the young man’s emotional world crumbles, and soon Antonin descends into a shadowy world of Paris nightlife. He indulges his pain by engaging in public gay sex, prostitution and one-night stands until he meets Juliette, an effervescent, attractive woman. But Antonin soon notices that his new lover is just as emotionally unstable. Stylistically shot, the film creates a seductively dark world that reminds one that hope and love sometimes happen with the people you least expect. (French with English subtitles)
3-DAY WEEKEND
Boys in the Band meets Love, Valor, and Compassion with a 21st century perspective in this humorous romp around the goings-on within a group of young gay men during a tumultuously dramatic weekend getaway.
“Can we all just get along?”… and stay out of each other’s pants?” Not so easy for this disparate group of friends, lovers and newbies in this, Rob Williams’ (Long-Term Relationship, Back Soon) latest gay drama. Long-term couple Simon and Jason, who along with Cooper and his boytoy du jour, meet annually for a three-day weekend away from their hectic city lives. Looking to spice up this long-standing tradition, they add a special twist to this year’s retreat -- each of them must invite one attractive single friend to their mountain getaway. A frisky former college roommate, a constantly naked New Age yoga instructor, Simon’s uptight co-worker and a high-priced rent boy begin to stir up the weekend. A shaken and stirred cocktail of sexual intrigue is the result.
BOYSTOWN
In this candy-colored, wickedly funny audience pleaser, a funky neighborhood is invaded by hunky men, mysterious murders and huge doses of sassy Spanish attitude.
Sinisterly handsome Victor is a real estate agent working in Chuecatown, Madrid's quickly gentrifying neighborhood. But he hides a terrible secret: he has been murdering elderly women, disguising them as “suicides” and then quickly flipping their apartments to upwardly-mobile gay couples. When bearish couple Ray and Leo inherit the latest victim’s apartment, they offer it up to Ray’s saucy mother, but Victor’s master plan is to create the ultimate “gayborhood,” and the older woman doesn’t fit the demographic. A raucous, fast-paced comedy, Boystown is fueled with zippy one-liners, a smorgasbord of male eye-candy and comic mishaps all in the great recent tradition of Spanish cinema. (Spanish with English subtitles)
