Where’s Poppa
Star George Segal in person! Director Carl Reiner is unable to attend due to illness.
Where’s Poppa
This outrageous, politically incorrect black comedy about old age, mother love, police misconduct, and other highly charged subjects was too startling for audiences in 1970 but has become a cult favorite over the years. Even at the time, however, it had its champions. Writing in the Los Angeles Times, Charles Champlin called the movie "irreverent, foul-mouthed, vulgar, tasteless, indecent and… riotously funny." George Segal, Ruth Gordon, Ron Leibman, and Trish Van Devere star in the film based on the novel by Robert Klane. Sar George Segal will join us for a Q&A after the screening. Actor Paul Sorvino, who made his film debut in WHERE’S POPPA, will also be in attendance. Director Carl Reiner is unable to attend due to illness.
Reiner first came to prominence as a writer and performer on Sid Caesar's Your Show of Shows in the 1950s. Then he and Mel Brooks created best-selling comedy record The 2000 Year Old Man. Since then he has directed The Comic, The Jerk, Oh God! and All of Me, among many other films. He has won nine Emmy awards and authored several books in addition to working steadily as and actor, writer, and director.
George Segal was Oscar-nominated for his role in the taboo-breaking film Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? in 1966. He has co-starred in the hit TV series, Just Shoot Me and The Goldbergs.
