Work Weather Wife

Work Weather Wife is a gripping Punjabi-language drama about the humanitarian issue of honor killings.

Harpreet Sandhu, the writer-director of the film, highlights a very important issue of the South Asian community living abroad in this, his debut film.
Work Weather Wife was co-produced with a first-time female producer, Reema Nagra.

Historically, a woman is not heard in an Indian cultural setting and she can be murdered by her family if she is caught cheating on her husband; will CJ be able to analyze the faults in their relationship and evaluate his own behavior with her for last half a decade since their marriage or he will take the path of “honor killing,” which has become a norm in the international South Asian community?

Honor Killing has been a very prominent topic of interest in the Indo-Canadian community in the last few years. The message of this film is: “Killing a woman is not an honor but treating her with respect is.”

Work Weather Wife is a character-driven film set in a beautiful suburb of Vancouver where Vick, a con artist and addict, is thrown out of his house by his father. Vick lures CJ, a taxi driver, into a lottery scam and ends up living in his basement. CJ is married to Dimple, who married him for an immigration visa. Initially CJ is nowhere close to Dimple’s idea of a life partner. But Vick is handsome and charming, a seemingly perfect boyfriend, and Dimple starts to feel the relationship might work and eventually falls in love with Vick. Unaware of Vick's intentions, Dimple becomes pregnant. CJ is from an orthodox Sikh family and has a four-year-old daughter, Gugni.

Doctor JB is a psychiatrist who is also a close friend of CJ and is from the same village as Dimple. CJ is agoraphobic and visits Dr. JB for treatmen. Dr. JB tries his best to help her and provides guidance in family matters. Will Dr. JB be of any help to CJ to help keep CJ's family together?

The film explores the answers and takes us through the emotional ups and downs of a husband, wife, a con-artist and a little child through drama and music. (There are six songs in the film.) This project sets the bar for Punjabi cinema at the highest level possible.
